The Texas electricity market is built to confuse you.
Rates that jump after a year, hidden fees, "free nights and weekends." We read the fine print so you don't have to.
On your own
- Hours comparing plans on sites that get paid to recommend them.
- The advertised rate only applies if you use exactly 1,000 kWh.
- Your contract expires and you roll onto a variable rate without noticing.
- Customer service by phone tree.
With Affordable Kilowatts
- We run every plan against your real usage, not an average.
- No provider pays us a commission — your flat fee is our only income.

- You talk to the same person every time, by phone, WhatsApp or email.
Three steps, and you're done
Tell us where you live
Your address, who bills you, and roughly what you paid last month. No bill required to start.
We tell you what you'd save
Within 24–48 hours you get the number, the plan we recommend and why. If switching isn't worth it, we say so.
We handle the switch
We sign you up and keep checking your account every month. Your power never goes out — same wires, same meter.
Our price, out in the open.
Other services make you hand over your address before they'll tell you what they charge. Here it is, before you give us anything.
And if you're already under contract and we can't find savings that cover our fee, we don't charge you. We charge after sending your report, never before.
- Plan search and enrollment
- Monthly bill review
- Plan switch at renewal, no extra charge
- Support in English or Spanish whenever you need it
Your free report, no paperwork
You don't need your bill. Your address, who bills you and roughly what you paid last month is enough to start. For the exact numbers, we pull your real usage — with your permission.

Using Affordable Kilowatts was a game changer. I had a 3-year contract full of incentives that I thought were good. After changing to their recommended plan I am now saving over $900 per year on my electricity bills.
I had let my contract lapse because I thought it was all the same, but my monthly bills were higher than normal. After the team took a look at my bill, they reduced my price per kWh by over 50%. I have a small house, and my next summer bill was $50 versus over $100 the month prior.
I came here because a friend referred me. I thought I understood the system and that I was choosing good plans. It turns out I was choosing plans that were not the cheapest. I went with the recommended plan and my summer bills dropped by over 30%.
Common questions
Don't see yours? WhatsApp, text or email us and a person will answer.
Ask a question →Will my power go out when I switch?
No. The wires and the meter still belong to your utility — Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP or whichever serves you. All that changes is who bills you for the electricity.
Do I need credit or a Social Security number?
That is each provider's call, not ours: some require a Social Security number, some accept an ITIN, and some ask for a deposit. We start with the cheapest plan on the list, and if that provider asks for something you don't have, we keep working down until we find one that will take you. It may not end up being the very cheapest, but it will still be one of the cheapest on the market — and we tell you what they'll ask for before you sign anything.
What if I'm locked into a contract with a fee?
We calculate whether the savings cover the early termination fee. If leaving now doesn't pay, we tell you the exact date when it will.
How do you make money?
Only from your $120 yearly membership. We take no commissions from electricity providers, which is why we can recommend the plan that's actually best for you.
Do you work with businesses?
Yes. Restaurants, shops and small offices anywhere in Texas with retail choice. Commercial pricing is quoted based on usage.
